On the 25th of May, I was so preoccupied with collecting my paperbacks from the printer, that I completely forgot that I was exactly a month away from my release date! It’s the kind of thing I should post about, so I thought I would mark the date here.
The paperbacks turned out beautifully. They are a bit fancier than what Ingram Spark and Amazon can produce because the covers are made with 300gsm matte art board. They feel just like traditionally published books. It’s a shame that shipping fees make them prohibitively expensive for international customers (though I will of course look into pricing them if you are keen to get one). These are legal deposit copies that will go to local libraries in exchange for my ISBN.

What is Left
There are a few things left to prepare. I am still tweaking the introduction and acknowledgements. Then I need to re-upload the chapters with some sentence-level changes. My ARC team are currently reading Our Ways Unmasked. If you signed up for the e-ARC and missed your copy, please reach out to me on socials. The release date is…
25 June 2026
I chose it to mark The International Day of the Seafarer. You’ll understand why this is fitting once you read the book.

Unfortunately Amazon has recently decided that they no longer deliver proof copies of paperbacks to faraway places like South Africa. So I have to wait until release day to see how the book will look in print. I must encourage my readers to wait a couple of weeks before ordering their copies, just so I can be sure you’re getting a product that has printed well. Ingram Spark will be handling the wide distribution of my physical books. They take a while to set things up, so I am hoping to upload my final files there as soon as I can.
If you would prefer to buy the hardcover rather than the paperback, it will be coming in late July. I needed an extra month to design an attractive jacket for it, and to extend my release celebrations.
Lastly, if you are an audiobook fan, I can announce 2 exciting developments. Our Ways Unmasked will start being recorded in July! Christopher Tester and Amy Jensen are coming back to read Oklas and Prismer’s POV chapters. I can’t give an exact date for the audiobook release, but it should be arriving around October or November. I may also have something in the works for the Tidelings of Dras Sayve (more on that in the months to come).
Making an Occasion of it
- Here are some of the activities I have planned:
- One Page, One Line: Give me a number between 1 and 416 and I will give you a line from that page. To be played on Blue Sky, Twitter and Instagram on different days.
- Character Line-up: I have started a series of sketches that I am sharing on Insta and Threads (I want to repost these elsewhere too). They feature time-lapse drawings of my secondary characters with their bios and affiliations.
- Count Down: A week away from the release, we can plan something. Maybe a Q & A each day?
- I don’t currently know of anyone who can host a live stream for the release, but I would love to be able to do this on the day. Maybe I need to offer art in exchange for a spot on someone’s Streamyard?
Any other suggestions?
Thank you for taking this journey with me. It has been 3 years in the making! I can’t believe that when my next blog post comes out, the duology will be complete.
One more thing…
While we wait for my next release, you can catch up with a related short story that was published on 19 May. I highly recommend that you dive into the other stories in this anthology. You can get a teaser for each of them by watching Kris’s reaction video below. Author, Delilah Waan also shared an in-depth behind making of commentary here.
