March 2024 – Easter Weekend

This has been a month of new releases, reading, and some surprises (both good and bad).

Group Promos

The Narratess Indie Sale runs from April 13 – 15. This is a big event in the indie book community, hosted by author, Tessa Hastjarjanto.

If you return here in April, you can also check the links below for the following Bookfunnel promos:

Reading and New Releases

I’ve caught up on some excellent novellas and recently placed an order for a few special physical books. Buying from Zon is expensive (each book doubles in price with shipping to South Africa) so I usually check my local online shop, Takealot, for copies first. I’m not sure whether Zon or Ingram supplies them with indie books, but they show up from time to time.

TToDS is out now. I am content to watch it gradually reach existing readers, or introduce new ones to the world of Knyadrea. It was a relatively lighthearted project, which I needed at this time.

Surprises

I mentioned surprises, so let’s get the bad one out of the way first. I have been feeling fatigued for most of this year. Normally this passes; with some rest, I am up and about again. But this has been an unrelenting tiredness, so I went to the doctor. Blood tests confirmed I am severely anaemic (not quite in need of a blood transfusion, but close). Now we are doing further tests to determine the cause. I’ll be glad to get some answers so I can overcome these lapses in concentration. I’d appreciate any prayers, if you are so inclined.

Now for the good surprise…

I am excited to announce that Amy Jensen, who co-narrated Far Removed with Christopher Tester, has reached the finals of the Valorious Awards. I first heard about this competition aimed at emerging sci-fi storytellers last year. There are plenty of competitions for indie writers to enter, but not as many for audiobook narrators. I am glad Amy’s talent is being recognised, and am incredibly proud of her performance. Her voice has a low, gentle quality that fitted Prismer’s POV chapters perfectly.

Book 2 is coming along (albeit slowly because of my health problems). While we will see a lot of familiar faces (and masks), there are a couple of new characters I can’t wait to introduce you to. They haven’t appeared in either Far Removed or Tidelings:

  • Someone with close ties to the Pentarchy.
  • An old associate of Emis’s.

That’s all I can share for now. I wish you all a good weekend. I will be celebrating Easter with my family.
