If you are ready to see the names of my two main characters, scroll on. Then do come back up here if you want to catch up with other news. May 31 is a few days away but I’d like to send these blog updates on the last Friday of each month.
What Remains
You may remember I have been setting myself all kinds of deadlines. Some of these, I have reached with no problems (like preparing my manuscript for Laura, my excellent proofreader, in April). Others, like my desire to put out a novelette in February, were a little overambitious.
That novelette was originally going to be released along with the names of my MCs. It is written from the POV of a character who doesn’t appear in Far Removed and I thought it’d be fun to let the readers figure out who main character #1 (in FR) was when he made his appearance in the novelette at a younger age. The novelette needs a good edit but is almost finished. I have decided to release it to Mailerlite subscribers in July to celebrate my birth month.
I am not going to add the Mailerlite plugin on WordPress because until I miraculously find thousands of subscribers, it isn’t worth upgrading this account. I will be sure to make my links to the newsletter visible here when the novelette is ready.
Preorders
Far Removed is currently still with the typesetter. I’m contacting some bookish people to help spread the word about cover reveals and preorder links. I have decided to publish the physical book and epub across different platforms.
Lantern Audio, the audiobook studio I have partnered with, kindly collected my copyright certificate for me. The postal service in SA doesn’t function so it will be couriered here. Now I shouldn’t have any problems submitting my book to retailers under my pen name.
Auditions for narrators are beginning. At first I was going to have only a female narrator for both POV characters but Kevin (from Lantern) was up for the challenge of coordinating male and female voices to cover the alternating POV chapters. It feels like a dream, I am actually casting the characters I’m about to introduce you to.
So are you ready to learn who they are?

There you have them: my walking disasters. A single POV character wouldn’t have access to the different parts of this society I wanted to explore. Though these 2 have little to do with each other at the start of the book, there are some areas of overlap to work with. His name is derived from the Polish word for applause. It’s light and fun – on brand for him – but also kind of fleeting. I found it interesting to look at the etymology for prism. It means “thing sawn” and is defined as “glass cut at precise angles to analyse light”. I liked the symbolism as there are quite a few facets to her.
Hope you all have a great end to May. It’s been raining all day which is uncommon here – even in winter. June should be another month of reveals and news about ARCs.
